Yesterday we had a pot luck lunch at work. To spice it up there was a competition
with several different categories. I decided to try my hand at "tallest creation".
Thankfully the rules were minimal and vague...because even though I had twizzlers
and angel food cake in my concoction...calling it anything other than a creation
would have been a stretch.
The event started the night before for me as I assembled pieces of twizzler onto
96 feet of fishing line (the lighter the better so it would take less to lift it).
(a picture the day after...yes that's a lion puppet on a yoga mat...I have a mostly fun job)
The day of the event T-bone and myself found ourselves at Meijer trying to get
help inflating balloons...we weren't allowed to inflate the balloons ourself (the
local balloon union are pretty tough...most of them look like clowns but they
are incredibly bad ass) so we waited for a while. Two employees eventually came.
One could inflate but not tie and the other couldn't do either....I'm not kidding
about this part. So we ended up making a factory line...Employee 1 (let's call him
Ricky) would inflate the balloon and then hand it to me. I would tie it off and then
give to Employee 2 (let's call him Sticky) who would attach a string and hand off to T-bone.
T-bone was a little fearful of flying off towards the end...I purchased 15 balloons.
(T-bone offering a helping hand)
We got to the parking lot and were trying to get the balloons into the back
when one of them blew up...the outside of the car was so hot (lovely humid
mid-west weather) that if the balloons would touch the car they'd pop...so
we had to improvise. Thankfully work is only about a quarter mile away because
I held the balloons out the window and drove slowly. Down to one hand on the
wheel I wasn't able to take any pics.
So before this story becomes a novel...I assembled the creation...took it to
the pot luck and won. But I had to go to a meeting so I left and when I came
back for the balloons (the ladies at home love balloons) they were gone. They
hadn't gone far...I just didn't know about it. Someone (who is still unknown)
attached them to my car.
All in all it was a good day...I won a creation category (prize was a gift card)
and had balloons to take home...
