Chickens in Space - week 5

rough draft

Narky
Captain Nugget I’m almost ready to go out to collect the space rocks.
Narky has some kind of space suit almost on and is speaking to nugget

through a video screen. Nugget is in on the bridge.

Nugget
Excellent. Did you get the highly technological and complicated rock

grabbing equipment?

Narky
Yes (holds up butterfly net).

Nugget
Excellent…collecting those rock samples from the comet is the most

important thing that we do ….it’s incredibly important!

Narky
Yes sir…

Cadet shows up on the bridge…the “swish” of the doors and he’s right there.

Cadet Crispy
Captain I was wondering if you could take a look at my new peanut butter

and jelly sandwich recipe. It looks to be a breakthrough PB&J technology!

Nugget
Not possible Cadet Crispy…I’m too busy working with Narky on collecting

the rock samples…the rocks are just too important… it’s the most important
thing we have going on right now.

Cadet
Oh…sorry (walks off dejected…or hops…depends on the puppet)

Computer
Incoming call from Mother Nugget

Mother Nugget (on screen)
My little nugget …my how nice you look in your spiffy uniform.

Nugget
Oh…hello mother…I’m very busy right now with important stuff.

Mother Nugget
Well that’s not very nice…why don’t you call us anymore…your father and I

miss our little nugget ever since he’s flown the coop…you never write…you
never call….it’s like those 89 hours of birthing pains have no meaning to you…

Nugget
Mother, I promise to call later but right now we’re collecting rock samples

and it’s the most important going on anywhere…not just on this ship but
everywhere. Thanks for your call!

Mother Nugget
Why I…

Nugget
…other…ou’re….eaking…up…an’t …derstand…hat ou’re…aying…
(hits button on screen and mother nugget image goes away)

well that takes care of that.

Video screen disappears and the camera goes back to nugget who sighs

Narkly
Captain I’m now out in space

Nugget
Computer put Narky on screen please.

We see an image of Narky in full astronaut outfit floating around in circles…he’s

upside down when we first see him.

Narky
Wow…this is crazy. I wish I had gone to the bathroom before coming out in

space. It’s like when you get all ready to go play out in the snow and you’ve
put on 10 layers of clothes and as soon as you get out there you have to go.
And you know…when a chicken’s gotta go a chicken’s gotta go.

Nugget
Narky, your bladder is going to have to put a lid on it and deal with the fact

that collecting rocks is the most important thing ever!

Narky
I think my bladder is going to disagree with you sometime soon captain

END ACT ONE

Nugget
Well if you bladder has a problem with me it should speak up!

Narky
Eventually sir…eventually

Computer
Incoming call from Space Central.

Nugget
Onscreen

Paige
Captain Nugget! How is your day going!

Nugget
Ugh…it’s been one thing after another around here lately Astronaut Paige.

People don’t seem to understand that collecting these rock samples is the
most important thing going on right now. They want to share what they’re up
to…as if what they are doing is important…HA!

Paige
Well…as important as collecting the rocks…other people and what they are

doing is important too.

Nugget
What! You must be joking. Are you joking! Are we on Candid Chicken

Camera? (looking around for the cameras)

Paige
Nugget it’s no joke…other people matter…you could say that everybody is somebody.

Nugget
Everybody is somebody?

Narky (a small image of narky pops up on screen in a corner)
Sir...requesting a bathroom break

Nugget
Not right now! Astronaut Paige…you’re saying that everybody is somebody?

Narky
This is not going to end well.

Paige
Yep. Everybody is somebody. You are somebody. Narky is somebody.

Cadet Crispy is somebody. I am somebody!

Nugget
What about my mother. Surely she isn’t somebody.

Paige
Everybody is somebody. And all of us can do things that are important no

matter how big or small the task.

Nugget
Seriously?

Paige
Yep. Nugget I’m going to send you some pictures from our Earth satellites

Nugget
Okay

Paige
Alright (we show different pictures of people playing with kids and mamelodi

pictures…the whole time Paige is explaining what is going on in the pictures.

Nugget
Wow. You’re right about all those things being different. Some of them affected

a few people and some affected a lot of people. But they are all important.

Paige
You’re absolutely right. Every person is somebody and ever person makes

a difference.

Nugget
So I shouldn’t think that collecting rocks is the most important thing ever but

it is important just like what other people do.

Paige
You’re right. You are somebody.

Nugget
Great! Narky did you hear that? I am somebody and you are somebody too!

Narky
Sir…that’s great that I am somebody…but right now I am somebody who

needs to use the barhroom. Permission to go to the little astronaut’s room?

Nugget
Permission Granted

Space Chickens rough draft script

Space Theme Week 3

Paige (on screen as the chickens are standing around…each with a plunger)
Good morning chickens!

Chickens
Good morning astronaut Paige.

Paige
Where is Cadet Crispy?

Narky
Oh he’s on planet Frink working on a project with some aliens.

Scene of cadet surrounded by aliens… all might have moustaches.

Cadet
Yes…you’re absolutely right…for a perfect peanut butter and jelly
sandwich the peanut butter must go down first…but I disagree that
you should use white bread…logically the choice should be wheat.

Aliens
awle;kajew ;falkej fa;elkj! (very angry)

Cadet
But if you’re going to deep fry me because of my opinion then your
reasoning behind using white bread is absolutely correct.

Aliens
Aleisnd : sdafkdj ;alsdkj fa;ds (more calm now)

Cadet
Wow…who knew a sandwich could almost started an intergalactic incident.

Back to the shuttle

Paige
Great! I hope he’s having a good time Well, then I have a mission
for both of you

Narky
A mission! That’s…(dozes off)

Nugget
Narky!

Narky (waking up)
Yes yes…the answer is banana…

Paige
Anyway…here’s your mission…you need to learn how to receive
God’s love

Nugget
Huh?

Narky
She said we need to learn how to receive God’s love

Nugget
I heard you but that seems silly. God gives us love all the time

Paige
Yes…but you need to learn how to receive it…Nugget would you
say you’re able to give love easily?

Nugget
Oh yes…I’m a great captain…everyone on my ship knows I love them...

Narky (laughing)
Yeah right…you’re a (catches a look from nugget)…I mean…yes
sir…you’re the best sir.

Paige
Captain Nugget do you know the alphabet?

Nugget
Why yes…of course…. A B C D E F G H I J K….I could go on and on
all the way to Z.

Paige
So you could teach someone the alphabet?

Nugget
Yes

Paige
Why?

Nugget
Why could I teach them? Well because I know the alphabet.

Paige
Well it’s the same idea with God’s love. Until we know how to receive
God’s love then it’ll be tough for us to love others and how to teach
others to receive God’s love.

Nugget
Oh…it’s like knowing how to tie your shoes…until you know how to tie
your shoes correctly then you’re not going to do it right and you won’t
be able to show others how to tie their shoes right.

Paige
Yes…you’ve got the idea!

END OF ACT ONE

Nugget
I’m still don’t exactly understand the whole concept of receiving God’s love.

Paige
That’s okay…Nugget do you ever listen to the radio?

Nugget
Oh yes…101.4FM…easy chicken listening.

Paige
Do you know how your radio works?

Nugget
Yeah…I’ve got a diagram of the process right here. (pops up on screen)

The radio station sends a signal our from it’s tower and that signal gets
picked up by my little radio.

Paige
So if your radio isn’t picking up the signal very well what does that mean?

Nugget
Oh…well it could be that I’m in the basement and it can’t get the signal…or
it needs new batteries…or the antenna isn’t up.

Paige
So if the radio isn’t playing very well something needs to change with the radio.

Nugget
Yeah…the radio station is always sending the signal…you can always rely on that.

Paige
Well it’s the same idea with God’s love. Think of God as a great big radio
station and he’s sending his love out all the time. It’s always there and he
will always send out his love. All of us are little radios like the one you
have…we’re not always in the right place to receive God’s love and so we
might have to change some things. But God’s love is always there and he
always wants us to have his love.

Narky
So if we’re supposed to learn how to receive God’s love what do we need to do?

Paige
That’s a great question Narky and there are a couple of different things you can do.

Narky
I’m taking notes (he’s at the computer and the ideas will pop up on the screen)

Nugget
Could I guess the first one?

Paige
Sure

Nugget
Does it involve buying a science defrosting toolkit from my local science
store and then applying the day light savings equation to help me come
up with the right meridian coordinates where I will then bypass the
stonework circuitry and punch in the correct code to get some balloons?

Narky
I’m sorry…all I got was defrosting light bulbs…could you repeat all that?

Paige
There’s no need for that. Nugget…the first thing you can do to help receive
God’s love better is just pray to God and ask him for help.

Nugget
That’s it?

Paige
Yep…just pray to him and ask for help.

Nugget
Oh…okay…(bows head) God…please help me receive your love since that’s
the most important thing I can do…Amen

Paige
Cool…the next thing you can do is just appreciate all the things that God
has given you. God loves us so much that he’s already given us all kinds
of stuff. Being able to remember to see all that stuff helps remind us
that God loves us already.

Nugget
Oh…okay…well…God gave me friends and family and a place to sleep
and some food to eat…pretty much everything I have is from God.

Paige
You’re right! God has given us so many things….it’s easy to see that
he loves us!

Nugget
Okay…so pray to God to ask for help and then we just look around to
see how God already loves us…is that it?

PaigeYep! Knowing that God loves us and seeing that God loves us
makes it pretty easy for us to know how to love others since God
has shown us

Narky
Woah…not sure I understand that…

Paige
Well…when you pray to God do you think he’s listening?

Narky
Yeah….I don’t always hear from God when I’m praying but I know
he’s always listening

Paige
So we know that God loves us and that God listens…

NuggetOh…I know!...we can show people that we love them by listening
just like God listening to us!

Paige
Yep! You got it!

Narky
And we can tell other people that God loves us and he also loves them!

Paige
That’s a great idea! You guys are doing a great job with this mission.
Narky what do you have written down

Narky
I’ve got that we should pray to God and ask for his help…and then we
can see all the good things he’s given us to know he loves us.

Nugget
And it isn’t just the stuff we see.

Narky
Like what?

Nugget
Well like music and naps and hugs…stuff like that

Paige
Great job guys…so do you think you can teach Cadet Crispy how he
can receive God’s love!

Narky and Nugget
Yep!

Space Chickens - rough draft of the intro

Space Theme Intro

(Captain Nugget voice over while we see a vast empty space shot. Star Treky music in the background)

Nugget
Space. It’s all around us.. These are the voyages of the Chicken Ship Drumstick. It’s multiple week mission is to explore silly places, to seek out new peanut butter and jelly recipes and find a good pillow – to boldly go where no chicken has gone before

(By this time we see the outside of the chicken ship drumstick…it looks like a frozen chicken…the front wings actually being the wings for the space ship and the legs being the rocket engines. It is slowly moving towards us staring from the left of the screen and moving right…gradually getting closer to us)

(Music gets interrupted… screeching sound like the needle is being pulled off the record)

Narky voice over
What are you talking about ? We’ve got a map and list of things to do!

Captain Nugger voice over
Would you be quiet I’m trying to do the intro!

Narky
Sorry.

(music starts in again)
Nugget
Anyway. Where was I? Oh yes…our multiple week journey

(screeching halt…again)
Narky
Are we there yet!

Nugget
NO!

Narky
Sorry

(music starts…again)
Nugget
Anyway. We space voyagers. We adventurers of the unknown .We shall discover the space before us! We ….chickens! We…chickens of space!

Narky
Chickens of space? That’s not very dramatic

Nugget
How about…(clearing throat)…Space chickens!

(Theme music takes over…coming to full life as we zoom into the “bridge” of the ship as we see Nugget and Narky for the first time as they blankly staring back at the camera.. Behind them a little bit is a small chicken cadet.)

A bunch of video screens are behind them and we zoom into one and we see astronaut paige…pan to another screen and there are some aliens…we go from screen to screen taking from the different week’s characters (and seeing their names) before we go back to the chickens…cadet lets the Nugget and Narky know that the camera is on then and Captain Nugget…belts out:

Nugget
Space chickens!

i should stop caring

seems like the best stuff from me is when i'm not caring what the end
product is...really frees me up to cut loose.

this sketch isn't an example of sweet stuff...but the "stop caring" idea

bounced around in my head while doing this.

i'm going to stop caring for a while when it comes to creating

stuff...whatever gets created will get created...

more chicken

we're just starting to work on the next original theme (we're using
purchased curriculum for the next 4 months) and it's all about outer
space...and to make it fun it's going to be about chickens in space...

superschool week 6

Go Peanut Butter

we've got a lot of projects floating around work with the "GO" prefix
(GoMamelodi which helps out folks in South Africa...GoCincinnati which
does the same for cincy folks) so it seemed right to use it for kid's
club...there's going to be a peanut butter drive coming up with the
kinder thru fourth graders...they're going to get jars of PB and send
it with the rest of the food the adults are collecting for thanksgiving...
